This took me a while to get through - mostly because I got busy with school, but also having to read just how torturous and painful the experiences people went through was really heavy. The art is fantastic. The narrative is fantastic. This is such an incredible look at non-fiction writing and art.

"They're there for a reason," came the closing lines, and I started crying. They're there for a reason, yes: because of white supremacy, of Islamophobia, of racism and injustice. They're there because America doesn't want to be held accountable for their actions, because people will continue to convince themselves that to keep them imprisoned for years without end is "safe, humane, and legal." How can people believe that this is good? How can anyone believe that any of this is justice?

Sarah is an amazing person. I met them in the fall semester of my freshman year and they gave me a copy of the book. I asked if they were sure, and they told me that as long as I paid it forward, they wouldn't mind. I'll be donating this to my local library soon.
