I'm very disappointed in this latest entry in the Alex Cross series (#32). There is WAY too much going on with four different story lines -- two for Alex and John Sampson, and two for Bree. There's a serial killer on the loose, a plane has been shot out of the sky, there's a missing CEO, and a missing college friend of Jannie's.

The chapters alternate between the various mysteries, and we all know that the Patterson chapters are extremely short. We only get a brief glimpse deeper into one of the story line when ...WHOOPS....we are thrown into another brief update on a different story line. It is so jumbled together that after the first 50 pages, I was ready to give up. I ended up skimming the rest of the book but it was so unsatisfying compared to many of his others.

I will seriously think twice (or three times!) before I attempt to read #33 in the Alex Cross series! I am shocked that this book received a Goodreads score of 4.31 (out of 5) with 11,143 ratings!!

Thank you to Netgalley, the author James Patterson and the published for the advance copy.

I am a huge fan of James Patterson and have read the majority of his work. His books are always fast paced with short chapters and great plots.

This book has three plots running alongside each other which I found a little confusing with lots of character names to remember. (I probably struggled due to chronic overwhelm and reading around three noisy children rather than the actual writing/book).

Alex Cross is one of my favourite series from Patterson. If you've read the others it's highly worth a read.

I personally got confused by one scene involved Davis and Miss Plum which I still haven't got my head round even after rereading. I also don't understand how the title relates to the story but that's neither here nor there.

Alex and Sampson are called to Reagan airport to investigate the shooting down of a plane. They are on the trail of a man named Davis, who is a football coach at a local school and a former NFL player. It is all connected to the Maestro. Meanwhile, Bree is investigating the death of one of Jannie's friends, Iliana.
Quick read, and Ali gets involved in the crime solving. Nana Mama also has a role in this as she becomes a YouTube star!
Not the greatest, but still entertaining.

5 Stars. Cross and Crew do it again. Fun mystery. Plenty of excitement and a perfect set up for the next one. Typical, reliable Cross and Patterson.
