Fun story starting with an enslaved child and ending with a rich businessman and his clever horse. I'd heard about Jim the smart horse before so it was fun to get more details, and the illustrations would make this a fun picture book to share or give a young reader. The language was fresh and modern ("enslaved child" rather than "slave" for example).

The true story of a former slave who used kindness instead of brutality to educate his horse. And by educate, I mean Doc Key taught Jim how to read, do arithmetic, spell...it was crazy! Fabulous book about what can be accomplished through love and kindness.
