I loved the arc of the story, as I've never read a novel about forgers during WWII. Unfortunately I never connected with the intended emotions of this book. Eva read as pretty one-dimensional to me, and the romance between her and Remy felt forced. The twist during the war was cartoonishly presented, I legitimately hated Eva's mom, and
I can't understand why Eva wouldn't share her story with her husband or even why she didn't want to know what happened to the children
. The writing style was not for me—I found it too basic, lots of telling rather than showing—but the audiobook narration was well done.
