Absolutely beautiful illustrations and full of feeling. A little sad, a lot sweet.

This book is that old saying of 'If you love something, let it go.' and it is lovely, charming, and full of feels. The illustrations are lovely and full of expression, the backgrounds are nice and really highlight the character the most. This is a really sweet book which I imagine both kids and adults will really like. I think it will teach kids kindness and have adults think about their children someday leaving the nest and growing on their own. Great book I highly recommend! ~Ashley

Although I understand the sentiment, I was rather concerned about the duck being "rescued" and not returned to the pond and how young children will interpret and act this out.

A little girl raises a lost duckling over the course of a year. As she does, the text tells us that love is late night feedings and messy baths. It is cleaning up and helping to grow. And, when the time is right, love is knowing when to let go. The story is heartwarming, the illustrations are absolutely perfect, and the text makes me think not just of ducklings growing up and “leaving the nest,” but it also serves as a lovely metaphor for children growing up.

Such a sweet about a girl taking on the role of "mom" to a baby duck. I loved this book because it reminds me kind of myself and my "duckling" and how I've raised him to go out on his own. And how I've got to let him go. I got a little sentimental reading our library copy, but it was such a sweet story that I am thinking about ordering myself one to keep. The illustrations are simple yet perfectly done for this book.

I want to add this book to my collection. Enough said.

It captures life so well. Falling in love with something (as this little girl does with a duckling) and showering it with all the love in the world. But then knowing that there comes a time when you have to let go.....but maybe, just maybe, that love will return to you.

I think parents might enjoy this more than the children. But that's alright. However, the cuteness of both the little girl AND the duck just might win people over as well.
