I loved this book! I listened to it on audio and I have a feeling if I physically read it I would’ve rated it a 5.

This book follows 3 different stories. The first being a 13 year old girl who survived a home invasion that killed her parents and presumably her brother and best friend. Next is a mother and young daughter who have been held captive from many years in a man’s basement. And last a true crime writer who goes away to a small town to work on a story.

This book was so good and keep me on my toes the whole time! The one down side with the audio was that it took me a couple minutes to figure out what time line in the story it jumped to. I did see some twist coming but not all of them! I would highly recommend!!

Captivating

It was a captivating story telling. The beginning started slow but once it took off I couldn’t stop reading it. I loved how Gudenkauf told three different timelines (perspectives) and merged them to complete the storytelling.

This was a slow burn with plenty of tension, suspense, and mystery. There are two timelines between the present and the past. There are two POV's, with one being a child's. There are three mysteries going on, and it was confusing at times with a lot of jumping around between the three mysteries, but once you got into it, you couldn't put it down. Confused about the who did it part.
