Wow!

Okay, when I first saw this book I was worried it would turn out to be like The Seafarer’s Kiss, but this is so much better than that! Warrior maidens, viscous mermaids, it’s fantastic and like very and I need to read the next one now!

 I really enjoyed Ice Massacre!
It's one of those books that I bought *checks calendar* three years ago because MERMAIDS and then never read. But here I am to atone for my sins and tell you, this was dope!

The story is, it seems, an often told one. War between hostile mermaids and humanity, a mermaid hunter and a mermaid fall in love because obviously.
And yet, we're on an Atlantic island, our mermaid hunter is a woman, and also king Triton is there and he's as much of a bitch as I always knew he could be from the Disney adaption.

I loved the characters. Even the assholes and horrible people. Eriana Kwai has lost many of its young warriors to the mermaid wars, and thus decide for the first time to send young girls. And obviously, immediately upon leaving shore there's what I imagine to be a Lord of the Flies type of situation happening.
It was so fucking cool. If Lord of the Flies is like that, maybe I should read it at one point.

The finale was a bit... Weird, in my opinion. I didn't quite get where the development was coming from, but I'm very interested in how this continues!

I'm writing this after reading the whole trilogy. The first book was great, the second book was okay, the third book had much to be desired and was not very satisfying. All in all, 3.5/5 for the whole series.

This was really good! A team of trained 18 year old girl fighters are sent on a ship to massacre the vicious mermaid population. But one girl made friends with a mermaid when she was a kid! Like Fox and the Hound with mermaids and lesbians.

The Pacific Island of Eriana Kwai has been in a war with the demons of the ocean, mermaids, who have been known to eat human flesh. Isolated and unable to even fish, the inhabitants of Eriana Kwai continuously run low on resources and send their young men on a massacre against the mermaids every year. When the massacres start to fail, a new strategy is developed to train and send the young women of Eriana Kwai, since they can not be hypnotized under the mermaids spell. Meela is one of the twenty girls chosen to train for the massacre. As a child Meela thought she had befriended a mermaid, only to find out she had been tricked. Her brother was also killed on a previous massacre. Now, Meela must decide if she wants to fight for the freedom of her island at the sake of killing an entire species.

An awesome mermaid story, with strong female warriors that were both human and mermaid. I loved that the mermaids were fierce, creatures that were capable of destroying humans with their super strength and speed. The set up of the relationship between Meela and mermaid Lysi was really interesting, not really knowing what the drive behind it is. The added dramatics of twenty young women on a ship together was almost as intense as all of the battle scenes themselves, creating internal as well as external struggles. I can't wait to learn more about what the mermaid king wants as well as where Meela and Lysi's relationship is going...very intriguing.

This book was received for free in return for an honest review.
