Brief tales of subversive children who turn the logic of the adults in their lives against them. Good for discussing values and why some of these behaviors might be tempting but poor choices overall. For sly nastiness, there are better choices. Best for ages 8-10.

Each short story in this book tells the tale of a child who is more or less not-so-perfect.  They indulge in habits, lie, and sneak off.  And they have a good time doing it and exasperating their parents.  This book is probably the most anti-didactic book I've read (unless it's being didactic in saying that not being perfect is much more fun and fulfilling?).  Either way, this book gave me a wicked sort of pleasure while reading it.

I picked this up from my favorite low cost book catalog because the title appealed to me. I read it out loud to one of my 3rd grade classes and we all got a huge kick out of it. I read about half of it in one library session and then a couple of weeks later when I picked it up again they were enthusiastic aboThey got the humor and that the book was NOT telling them to behave the way these naughty children behave. It was great fun to read aloud and channel the misbehaving children. Particularly the whiny Harriet.

I want to track down The Shrinking of Treehorn series and see if I like it.

The complete title would be Tales for the Perfect Child about Imperfect Children. Remind me of how annoying kids could be at times. Not entirely wrong though, parents should have know better that children were not supposed to be perfect. Also the pictures are pretty.

Love the new illustrations--older kids (say 8+) will enjoy the sly humor of these tricksters--and parents will be forewarned!

I love the sly humor of Florence Parry Heide's TALES FOR THE PERFECT CHILD. Sergio Ruzzier's illustrations are a perfect fit. A wonderfully done reissue!
