I wasn't really into this series at all until the issue showing the other whole life Peter Quill has had for himself, leveling up as a Star-Lord in huge ways. After that point, this was a really fun comic.

Just continue to really enjoy Al Ewing’s writing, I really appreciate the varied work he’s done with The Hulk, SWORD and now the Guardians.

The second volume of Ewing's GotG run is even better than its predecessor - juggling two different events (the aftermath of Empyre and King in Black), it never loses its pacing and even finds time to highlight the two arguably most interesting characters here (Nova and Star Lord). It starts strong and ends with probably the best issue so far. My only downside is a somewhat uneven artwork, but none of it was actually bad - I just prefer when the artists have more similar styles.
