A stunning debut of poetry, Allodynia is a fantastical collection, divided into Pain Log and Ship’s Log. The poems in the two Pain Log sections detail illness and medical trauma, sorting through the hostile conditions of our society which do not prioritize or protect health. Malli takes gory images and makes them beautiful.
In Ship’s Log, the poems explore aliens, other worlds, and changing technology, leading us into a poetry world of science fiction. Dark and accusing, they explore war, artificial intelligence and our inability to truly imagine new worlds. This was a fascinating collections of poems and I’m excited to read more of Malli’s work in the future!
