It was actually very good. All the knowledge and revelations that we received in this and the kind of merger that we are headed towards has really raised my anticipation.

Another amazing Hobb book - at this point 9 books into this series I am used to the pain and loving it.  It's back to the old Fitz depression grindstone. The breakup/fight part was especially painful, as someone who loves the relationship between the Fool and Fitz it was rough.

I loved how each of the relationships built on one another, how the pain was deeper and the motivations for all the characters realistic. I'm rating this 4.75 as it was excellent but maybe wasn't as well paced as Fool's Errand - some of the slower bits felt especially slow in this one. Still, I breezed through this book and I'm excited (scared) to read the next book.

Most of the Fitz and the Fool books move at a meandering pace but this one really took the slowness to the next level. Thankfully by this point in the series, I’m invested in these characters and their day to day lives because that is what the majority of this book was comprised of. We see relationships between the characters change a great deal in this novel and a lot of the background characters get flushed out more. Of course Fitz is put through peril because that’s what he’s there for. I sobbed at one point and still mourn for our four legged friend quite often. I absolutely can’t wait to see where the next book goes because I know this book was doing a lot of set up for what is yet to come.

Last third was a bit slow. But nice to see plotlines come together from Hobb's other series.
