Holy....Wow!

Maria Luis has been busy! Holy...wow! I'm not exactly sure what I expected but she surpassed it all. Road To Fire is a whirlwind of intrigue, mystery, suspense, and even a crazy little thing called love.

It starts with a secret society and goes out with a bang. The fast paced story is littered with minefields, broken glass, and trip wires. Everything seems like a bomb about to go off, nothing more than Saxon Priest.

Loyalty, honor, and primal need do jot go hand in hand. Saxon learns at a high cost just what he would be willing to do for the crown and what he wouldn't.

Road To Fire is a physical and very real splitting of a person right down the middle. A visceral wrenching of bones, sinew, and muscle being torn from itself. You will hope to survive, long for death, and fight for what you believe in.

I am both horrified and desperately longing for book 2. I can't believe Maria Luis left us there! That cliffhanger is going to drive me batty or should I say daft!?!

This is outside my normal go-to's for books (love the contemp-romance, romantic suspense type) but I would read the encyclopedia if Maria Luis wrote that.
Saxon Priest drew me in from the first page. He was gruff and take-no-sh!t type man. And strong female characters make or break a book for me and Isla Quinn is the definition of a strong woman! Maria is a talented woman who is able to bring twists and turns to a story until you didn't know what direction Saxon and Isla were going to veer into. I've always said if a book can make me forget where I am, the world around me and that my butt is going numb from not moving because of how entranced I am, it needs the 5 stars I gave it!

“I breathe, you inhale, and we both go up in flames.”

I remember reading this blurb in my email and I was like I need this. I want Saxon and Isla’s story, like now.
In Road to Fire, Maria Luis definitely built the anticipation up for readers. I will admit initially, the story moved a little slow for me and with every turn of the page, I kept waiting for something to happen. At the same time, I feel like that was the plan. To have you eager and on edge with want.
It’s a true and definite slow burn but have patience. Because once the story picked up, it picked up and I couldn’t look away.
I loved the strength, fire and vulnerability Isla and Saxon had. The two shared so many similar traits it’s no wonder they were at each other’s throats. Isla is that heroine you admire with your whole heart because she takes risks and sacrifices it all for the ones she love. Fear is nothing to her. Saxon, this man is blindly and wildly dedicated to his family and obligation. These two had walls of Teflon steel built up but somehow they broke through each other’s walls and oh my I was an absolute goner for the coupledom of Isla and Saxon.
Luis gave passion, fire, hot sexual tension, suspense, and ended with a twist and crazy cliffhanger you never see coming.

This book was not at all what I expected and yet, I was so thoroughly engrossed I didn't want to put it down.
Don't you hate when real life things (like feeding and playing with your kid) get in the way of your reading? Jokes. Sort of.... ok, not really.

Saxon and Isla were..... an exquisite disaster. You know, the kind of thing -that you just know- is going to maim, kill and destroy; and still, you can't bring yourself to look away.
Their story is unlike anything I have read, so much more than I expected and I fucking loved it.

“Because I would take everything that you are and make it mine. Your beauty, your humanity, your fire. I’d fill every broken and misshapen part of me with you until there’s nothing left.”

He laughs, a dark, gritty sound that tangles my fear and desire into a web that has no exit point, or understanding, but just is.

“A man like me steals what he wants, Isla, and with every piece of you that I took, I would still demand more, until you begged me for freedom.”

I fell in love with Saxon and Isla's story. Not just the two of them as characters but also their plot. I wasn't too sure what to expect diving into this book but I definitely got some James Bond vibes, not just from Saxon and his job role but also Isla who's a bad arse protector. These two balance each other out so well with their imperfections and stubbornness. Where Saxon sees no good in the world and doesn't believe in fate, Isla has held that goodness in her hands and lost it over and over again to a domino effect of tragic events. She treasures the goodness that she still sees with her siblings and wants to bring that into Saxon's life and help him experience joy in the smallest things.

There are so many conniving people in this book and I honestly had no idea who to trust. Saxon's more or less an agent undercover who's undercover again and Isla's just needs to stay undiscovered for obvious reasons. All the different layers to this secret society start to be revealed and things that should have been left alone start to come undone. As much as I fell for these two characters, the plot was just as good and I generally don't find that unless the book is fantasy-based. The ending alone was a massive WTF moment and I need book 2 in my life now.

Red-hot enemies to lovers with on the edge of your seat suspense, jaw dropping and will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. Saxon and Isla are fire and after many obstacles finally get their happy ending. The cliffhanger will leave you wanting more and I can’t wait for the next book of the series. This is one of Maria’s best books to date and left me with a major book hangover. Isla Quinn is hands down one of my favorite female heroines.

Favorite Quote: “You said that that no one should own a woman like me.” “I don’t own you, Isla. I’m choosing to walk by your side.”

Suspenseful & Sexy

Loved this book. I had to stop myself from staying up all night to finish it. Loved the flawed characters and the plot. It was suspenseful and intense and I enjoyed the whole book. Can’t wait to read the next one.
