Fast, easily read book with great pictures (my favourite is the one when young fans totally scream of joy and laughter in the cinema as Elvis sing a long in the movie Loving you). The rise of fame of Elvis came super fast, it started out with the song "Its all right mama" when the band was just joking around in Sun studios and producer Sam Phillips told them to do it again. First song I REALLY get going with by Elvis is Heartbreak Hotel, his first No 1 in the US. His sound is already there from the beginning. Then movie career, some of the first movies really good ( i have seen 5-6 myself). The critics liked Jailhouse Rock and King Creole (I have only seen the second one - its fabolous with stunning acts by the young Presley).

He was only once in Europe (Stunning!) and that was during his military service. The books says it is due to the producer "Colonel Parker". He lived in the USA but wasnt a citizen (he was actually Dutch), he probably couldn't have returned if he had gone overseas. Ahead of the servile "Memphis Mafia", Parker is portraid as the story's crook no 1. He had charges over 50 % (most producers only had 10%), and Elvis death is described almost to have pleased him since that made a lot of money. Much of the 60's was wasted, cause of Parkers bad managing (Elvis made 3 movies a year).

Massive medical/drug abuse (he had a "special doctor" similar to Michael Jackson) led to his death 1973. He was found laying on the floor in the bathroom.

Recommended from book:
Movies: Jailhouse Rock, King Creole
Documentary: Elvis on Tour (by famous director, awarded with an grammy)
Collection: The Sun Collection ("Regarded as the best Elvis collection")
