Well this is certainly a compelling, psychological, other-worldly, Native American- themed thriller. It’s captivating and obviously very well-researched and a real page turner. It’s not a genre I usually read but I couldn’t put it down. I’m still creeped out and still have the jitters from reading this. The only reason why I’m not giving this 4 stars or more is that I didn’t “like” any of the characters. The characterization in the novel is amazingly well done, don’t get me wrong, but I wasn’t especially sympathetic towards any of them, personally. The heroine, Diana, is perfect in her adaptability and vision which allows her to se her own flaws and faults and weaknesses, but even in that self-awareness, she still persists in taking decisions that she knows won’t end well. This is I suppose realistic and a reflection of all of us as individuals. I just tend to prefer fiction that presents a heroine that is a little more aspirational. Flawed is good, but still aspirational. This isn’t a comment on how good or bad the book was for having a super realistic hero, it’s just a comment on my personal taste.
