Very good mystery--and now I have to see if there is a sequel!

I read a lot of the Inspector Banks books years ago... but obviously a lot has changed in the story arc. So I couldn't always follow what was going on. I think that happens a lot in long series; the author and editor assume all the readers read the books as they come out, or at least regularly in sequence. Drug dealers small and large populate this book. The detectives working with Banks are unfamiliar to me.

Actually, 3.5-3.75 because it simply was not as absorbing as most of his past books. The one before this was also a bit of a disappointment.

An excellent crime read for both Banks fans and those who are new to the series. I thoroughly enjoy Banks’ keen sense of humour as well as his obvious enjoyment of music and books, which are a counterbalance to the horrors of the crimes he has to deal with. Highly recommended. Thank you Peter Robinson and Pigeonhole for giving me the opportunity to read this intriguing novel.

This was my first DCI Banks book and out was exactly what I would expect from the genre. I enjoyed the 2 narratives of Banks and Zelda, even though I miss some of the back story having not read the previous books. Is a super easy read, it won't change your life but it is fun. I'll pick up another one from the series when I feel like something light.
