I read this for the first time as a college assignment, and I loved it then. A few years later, I picked up Carnivalia once more and enjoyed it just as much the first time. The stories are dark and emotionally vibrant. Each character is unique in themselves but still bound to the society in which they live. Carnivalia is a study of humanity in all its forms.

If one only reads this as an experiment in form, it will still be rewarding, but there's more to it.
