Much more focused on what might be called "pop-semiotics", as opposed to "How to Travel with a Salmon" which was primarly humorous essays.

I very much enjoyed the first of the essays about Americas obsession with fakes and wax museums. The rest of the essays felt more misses than hits but i might need to revisit it again in the future.

The titular essay was not indicative of the sophistication and humor that comes out of later essays. Highly enjoyable, if a bit dense.

Eco's novels are great but I personally feel that his true genius comes out in his essays.

An Eco essay is always the same - it starts off with a banal premise and then he descends into the philosophical conundrums that the premise has and then he blasts off into something totally different while retaining those philosophical notions. He makes it seem simple but the thoughts behind his essays are quite complex.
