A Wish for Christmas by Courtney Cole is a holiday story where a couple who are drifting apart get the opportunity to see what life would be like if they had not married. The story starts with Nora and Jack walking their oversized dog, Elliott, who leads them to Padraig’s shop. After making a wish, they wake up the next day as Noel and Jonah. They are each leading their own lives (the same careers and they live in the same building). Padraig is an author who sends Noel chapters of his book which features (you guessed it) Nora and Jack. The best character is Elliott, a large lovable dog with a fun personality. Elliott added loads of humor to the story. Moxie, the kitten, is a delightful addition. Moxie and Elliott steal the show. The story itself is reminiscent of a couple of holiday books that I have read and at least two Hallmark movies that I have seen. I did not understand Noel and Jonah’s memory loss from their school years. The pair grew up together in the same small town, but they do not remember each other. Noel and Jonah kept getting thrown together throughout the holidays (Elliott was a big help) as their fathers’ bicker over what is best for the town. A Wish for Christmas is an easy-to-read story, but it was way too long (368 pages). I enjoyed Elliott and Moxie’s sections, but I found myself skimming through others. It is a lighthearted Christmas story that will appeal to those who enjoy watching holiday movies.

I really enjoyed this book. It had a great small town setting, dual point of view and a big, rambunctious dog named Elliott. It was sweet and funny and full of Christmas. Though I did find it confusing at times, it was a great story that kept my interest throughout and I loved it.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Avon for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

An interesting premise for the story. Liked the book for the most part and my favorite thing about the story was Elliot!

This was kind of beautiful. I was completely obsessed with the story. A married couple who are going through a rough patch find a bit of Christmas magic and can wish for a new life without one another. But is that what they really want?
I loved the slow rekindle between Noel and Jonah. It felt authentic and true. The idea of a memory community made my heart happy because I work in healthcare and love my elderly patients. Dementia is a cruel, hard disease. This was sweet, pure, and brought a lot of joy to my Thanksgiving day.

I'm not a big fan of Christmas stories but this one seemed interesting and I wasn't disappointed. Interesting concept and well written and well paced story made this a quick read.

I know some people may think it is a little late to be reading a Christmas book, but I am extremely glad I didn't put A Wish for Christmas by Courtney Cole off until next Christmas! This book made my heart so happy and was exactly what I needed at this moment. The end made me cry, and I am glad I was in the seclusion of my car at night instead of out with people. 🤣 This was such a magical little book, and I loved how the story became something so beautiful and heartwarming. Even though his part is relatively 'small,' the old man was such a great part of the story and I loved how he was involved in the continued storyline.

The audiobook was done so well, and I highly recommend it if you are an audio fan. Vanessa Johansson voices Noel while Tim Paige voices Jonah, and I loved both of them equally. They were the perfect match for their characters in all the things, and I was glad they were the narrators. The dog Elliott really stole my heart and the show in A Wish for Christmas and just made the romance between Noel and Jonah even more endearing. I would love to see this made into a movie, and the way the last few sentences are written just screams TV movie to me. If you love animals, Hallmark movies, and Christmas then I would wholeheartedly recommend reading or listening to this book. 💖

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
