Not quite what I had expected when I picked this up in the library. With very little text except for the opening and final pages, Moletown uses gorgeous visuals to illustrate the perils of overdevelopment when more and more moles move into a bucolic meadow, only to turn it into a vast warren of tunnels and molehills.

The illustrations in this book are so beautiful. But the storyline is so dark. It's more of a social commentary. The single mole moves into a green field and then more and more moles follow. By the end of the book, the green field is no more than a patch, with a field of mole hills and electrical wire at the end.

Beautiful illustrations! Plan on spending more time on the last page than the rest of the book combined ;)

Nearly wordless, the mole society in this book makes tons of "progress," ...but at what cost?

This is going to be a fantastic book to read along with [b: The Lorax|7784|The Lorax|Dr. Seuss|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327879938s/7784.jpg|886002] or [b: The Little House|77767|Little House on the Prairie (Little House, #2)|Laura Ingalls Wilder|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1441903581s/77767.jpg|2884161]. The illustrations are so rich; I think I'd like multiple copies so kids can pore over the details!

Whoa.
Dark, intense, seriously cautionary.
Like, maybe too much? Not sure I'd have a small child read this. Maybe 8+.
