I first found out about Mary Ann Shadd Cary from a Stuff You Missed In History Class podcast episode. I wanted to know more about her, so I started looking around for more information. I'm always interested in how the stories of people are told for children, or teens. This is a middle grade book about Mary's life. I really really enjoyed it and would consider buying it. I'm also going to look into the other books in the series, many about people I've never heard of before. It told a complete story of her life in a way that was complex and really made me see her as a person, not just a historical figure. I appreciate this book telling her story, and I appreciate her as a woman, an author.
