This book will probably be hard to find by many people. Our library had it. I requested it, but I don't remember how I learned about the book. It was first published in the UK, but it was released here a while back. Yet Amazon is just getting it which is strange. The book introduces Jacobo Dragonetti, a prosecutor who is also an investigator. He comes from a noble family and lives in the famly palazzo in Florence, most of which is unused. He is divorced with two teenaged daughters and in a relationship with Vanessa, a music critic, who recently moved in with him. This is an intelligently written and very interesting book with a lot of excellent background on life in Italy. A wealthy woman, Ursula Von Bachmann, who inherited a villa from her aunt, but was raised in Germany and was married to a wealthy German industrialist, has had three marriages and three children from each of the marriages. Her children are all damaged in one way or another. One of her sons is a former drug addict who was in a facility in Switzerland for the children of wealthy families. Another is a dwarf who has a beautiful face, but twisted body and hates the world as a result. Her third child, Marianna, lives in an emotionless dream world. When Ursula is found murdered in her bed and her body brutally disfigured after death, the family hopes that it is Guido, her toy boy. Ursula's long time servants, Piero and Marta, know a lot of the family secrets as well. About 2/3 of the way through or so I being to suspect who the murderer was. Still, it was entertaining and interesting to see Dragonetti get to the bottom of the story. Supposedly there is another book coming out called "Da Capo." I'm looking forward to reading that one.
