4.5 stars. I loved this so much. It's so good! I absolutely love this futuristic spec fic romance series--each book is intense and gripping and smart and a rollercoaster of emotions. I shed tears, happy and sad. I don't think this book stands alone. It might work, but it's so much better if you know the people already and the ways of the Temporal Research Institute and its background. This series is obviously building towards something big. The first two books are just as amazing and vivid and I highly recommend them both. As in the other two books, the opposites-attract romance is wonderful and rich and layered. Each book is a story of two smart, extremely capable, flawed people who are very different who end up falling in love while engaging in daring heroics and nail-biting adventures. The time travel plot is gripping and exciting and smart and has a few sad moments. This is such an intense, well done series. Excellent world-building, excellent characters, excellent adventure, excellent love story.

Both main characters are delightful. Qasim is an out bi Syrian Muslim who loves chess and has a lively sense of humour and a wonderful family. His faith is a big part of his life and Islam is portrayed in such a warm and loving way in this book. I haven't read a queer romance with a practicing Muslim as a main character before and I enjoyed that. The warmth and love of his family is such a contrast from Rhys' cold, disapproving Christian parents. Rhys is Welsh and short and chubby and wears glasses and is a bit shy and is mostly alone in the world. He and Qas click while working together on a mission and they go through a really difficult time when things go spectacularly wrong on a mission. The ending is a little bit sappy, but it also sets up intriguing things for the next book, which I am excited about, so I will forgive a bit of sugar. I'm so excited for more from this series! It's one of my favourites.
