Womack does an incredible job of recreating the writing style/voice of the late Victorian era - occasionally it impedes the tension they are building, but overall it gives a strong sense of place and authenticity to their work.
I think this type of book, with all its characters, perspectives, and secrets, was a very ambitious concept for a debut novel. I'm not sure Womack always sticks the landing in revealing things to the reader, often shying away from giving concrete answers/connections between story points. While it is fun to work those out, I do think it's important to give the reader at least one image of the whole web you've weaved at once. However, I'm excited to see what Womack puts out next.
