I was expecting something like Schoolhouse Rock, but...well, boring. But I was really impressed with this book, and particularly the art style. This book won the Caldecott Medal (award for picture book art) for the use of...pretty much political cartoon caricatures. The presidents are given big heads with humorously pronounced features, as well as overdone expressions. It really looks like some should be copy-pasted into a satire piece, but it's all done in good, bipartisan fun.

Little factoids are given about the presidents, from Taft and his bathtub to Coolidge and his stunning (if brief) wit, and even to more serious topics, like impeachment proceedings, assassinations, and wars. Serious facts are balanced with the funny, creating a book that I blasted through in a short time, and wished I could read again (but, sadly, the book was already overdue...).

This is an ideal read for the coming months as your kids--in home or in the classroom--begin to really hear about the coming Presidential elections. And, of course, it's a great tie-in for them to do reports on individual presidents, themselves. Perhaps hold a contest for finding the most interesting Presidential facts?

I loved this book. It has a cheeky sense of humor of who the US Presidents have been and what they did, from good to bad. I loved the illustrations, which were almost caracatures and the writing of the book reflected that.

It's a great cross-curricular social studies book, which is how I would use it in my class. It is in no way comprehensive, but gives little "fun" facts about each President as a person, not necessarily serious content, so this would be a fantastic introduction into Presidents for students.

2001 Caldecott winner. I enjoyed the fun random presidential facts sprinkled through this lively book. The illustrations were filled with humor to lighten it up too.
