i bought this book on sale for less than $2.99
i thought it would give some insight on the parallels between the iraq war & palestine under occupation, that didn't happen which is fine i guess. i could've done without the racism, sexism, homophobia & ableism it really didn't add anything to the story so there was no point in adding it at all. i found the dad character insufferable for 90% of this novel.

Honestly this graphic novel was horrid. I like to read books from authors all over the world and I try to have some understanding that cultural beliefs are different. I try to read things with an open mind. This was racist, sexist, homophobic, violent, anti-Semitic, and full of horror. There were no redeeming qualities, no good storyline, no likeable characters- even the art was awful. It was just horrid, do yourself a favor and skip this one

I was invested in the family's story & interested in the political history when they were living in France and Lybia. When they moved to Syria, the vocabulary used and Riad's father's actions became too offensive/upsetting to ignore. I lost interest because of this.
