Wow, wow, wow. This story was phenomenal! I'm not sure I can say this, having not read much Biblical fiction, but I really believe Tessa Afshar brings the Bible to life like no other - except the Holy Spirit, of course. I never thought I'd be a fan of Biblical fiction, but my mind has been now and forever changed.

In the Field of Grace follows the story of Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz. Tessa really takes the reader into the trenches with these characters. We see conversations, interactions, and a closer look at what their day-to-day lives may have been like in Biblical times.

She does a great job of sticking to scripture with the baseline of the story, adding additional fictional elements to help the reader be immersed in the time. Each element in the book seamlessly weaves together a story of great faith and great grace.

Two things that I love that Tessa did was 1) She gave a scripture at the beginning of each chapter as a lens for the reader to read them through. And 2) She even weaved in Bible stories that took place before and after Ruth. So, not only are you learning about one instance, but multiple that took place throughout Biblical history.

I truly cannot put into words how powerful the messages in this book were. This was the perfect companion to my Ruth Bible Study and a story I will be encouraging others to pick up for years to come!

Enjoyable story. I liked the cultural aspects of the story, and appreciated that although it felt more like a devotional at times, it was good Bible.

Nice retelling of the Biblical story of Ruth, with some very memorable passages and scenes. The second book I have listened to by this author: I have two more and will certainly try to get around to them soon.

I love this story! This author did a wonderful job of bringing the story to life. It made me realize how important hope is in life. Without hope there is no reason to go on living.

I really like this, but my opinion, the book should’ve ended after she and Boaz got married. The portion about the childbirth should have been in the epilogue. The part about David didn’t really add anything to the narrative, other than explaining how the book of Ruth came into existence. Between the two of them, I think the first book in the series was better.

Listen if you guys like historical fiction and you’re a Christian and you’re really interested in Bible history then I highly highly suggest In the Field of Grace by Tessa Afshar. I loved every minute of this book and it’s very very close to my heart because I kept mentioning the phrase acceptance with joy and that is the household/sorority that I was a part of in college so it has kind of like a double meeting for me anyway I love Tessa‘s writing I think she is phenomenal. I will definitely be greeting not only more historical fiction but also more biblical fiction and definitely more Tessa books because I think she is a genius and deserves a lot more credit.
