One of my most beloved books of childhood, so thrilled it's been re-released. I probably wore out my small town library's copy in 1972.

I would pay BIG money to own this book.

UPDATE: I finally own this book! It now sits on a shrine lol. I absolutely love, LOVE Opalina. She has been part of my life since the tender age of 7 :)

(Note: my rating is heavily influenced by nostalgia)

I'm on a "re-reading books I read and loved as a kid" kick. I first read this book in elementary school and promptly fell in love with it because it was about a cat (albeit a dead one) but upon revisiting it as an adult I think it's still worth reading.

When their family moves into an old house in the country, three children encounter Opalina, a spectral cat who haunts the room where she was killed. Since she has been haunting the house for 200 years, she tells the children stories of the people who lived there in her previous "lives". It gives an interesting look at domestic life in America over the years with some small intervention by the ghost (usually in scaring away undesirables who intend to harm the resident family).
