Terrific story, well told. A bit lengthy, though.

Incredible read. I had my doubts about reading a book about rabbits, but I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the characters, and the world building. I am completely lost in this story, in a good way. I really enjoyed the incorporation of stories and legends in this novel. I was also blown away when I witnessed first hand the creation of these legends. I highly recommend this book!
This book had me so frustrated. I was slightly less frustrated at the end of the book, but throughout the 500 pages, I kept questioning why this is considered a classic.
This could have been so much shorter than it was: everything besides the final battle was a slog to get through, and even that was difficult. The plot dragged on, I was barely connected to any of the characters, and the book felt like it would never end. I just kept turning the pages to finish the book - things just kept happening to the characters, and I wished it had more cohesion.
It also bothered me (as others have mentioned) that the novel is deeply set in gender roles. Literally at least half of it is about freeing does so they can mate and continue their warren. Female characters barely play any roles in the plot, and when they do, they're always following the orders of men and confined to stereotypes.
All of the characters could have been developed better than they were: it was pretty easy to mix different characters up with each other. And while I get the incorporation of their language, it only worsened the book - their jargon was used sparsely enough to forget what each word meant, but often enough that it was integrated into the plot. It felt really half-done, like it was added last minute to the book.
I get how everything came together in the end, but I wouldn't read this again if I had the chance, I wouldn't read it if I went back in time, and I would never recommend it to anyone.

This story has been recommended to me by two close friends and boasted as their favorite.
I finally found the time to read it and was not disappointed!

I picked this up to heal the trauma the animated film created in my childhood, but it turns out I was just not very interested in the story as a teen.
