A reminder of how much British colonialism has to answer for, in case you had forgotten. Highlights for me included the pieces on the legacy of LGBTIQ oppression left by Britain in certain African countries (‘House of Rainbow’ and ‘Love in the time of obuntu’) Margaret Busby’s piece on African publishing (‘We are the world’), Michael Wesley’s piece on the Commonwealth displacing the empire (‘Empire of delusion’) and Anna Kessel’s discussion of racism and sexism in sport reflecting on the South African runner Caster Semenya (‘The unequal battle’). Oh, and the piece from Jamaican environmental activist, Diana McCauley.
