What Alice Forgot

Liane Moriarty

3.95 AVERAGE

Still thinking about this book. It’s so fascinating to think about what your life was 10 years ago. Would you still be in the same place you are? Would you have made different choices? I can not wait to read the next Liane Moriarty book.

I liked this one. It was recommended by a parent two years ago, and I’ve finally gotten around to it. It took me on such a roller coaster, but with good feelings as the base - I knew Alice was in a true love, and only wished that the outcome would be perfect… The side story of her sister, Elizabeth, was very realistic and heartbreaking, but then I think turned unrealistic. I don’t know who’ll I’ll recommend this book to (not students, I don’t think), but I enjoyed it enough to give it a 4.5/5.

I loved this book. I love it when an author can bring me into a story. That is exactly what Liane did.

A story about a woman who hits her head a the gym and forgets the last ten years of her life.

I'm blaming the hype (or maybe something is wrong with me) but this book was just okay for me. In fact, I was ready for it to wrap up and finish. I feel like I should apologize for feeling this way. So many people adored this book. I gave it 3 stars, and if I'm being honest, I probably did so because I'd feel guilty for giving it a lower rating since so many others loved it. Yes, I do fall to peer pressure from time to time.

I don't like bashing books or talking negatively about books that others enjoy, because I want others to maintain those fond feelings. I want to refrain from my criticisms. But, that wouldn't be reviewing a book, would it?

I felt like I was supposed to really care for these characters and get invested in their stories, but I didn't. Maybe I'm heartless. (No, I'm not.) I think Alice's sister's (see, I finished reading it 3 days ago, and I can't even remember her name) story of her struggles with infertility was the most well-developed story. But, it wasn't enough to make the book feel complete for me.

Sorry Alice lovers!

This was an interesting story about a woman who has amnesia, which spans 10 years. She cannot recall her children, her soon to be ex husband, or most of the people surrounding her. I was most struck by the idea that she was able to function passably at a party surrounded by parents of her child's classmates without any of them realizing that she hadn't the foggiest who they were.

I enjoyed this book. I would have given it three and a half stars if I knew how. It was an easy fast read and mostly good although I do agree it was a bit drawn out. I would recommend this for the kind of light reading I enjoy.

I really enjoyed this. It is interesting to think about what ten years ago me would think about current me. And to remember not to let the busy of everyday get in the way of the life you want to live.

I loved this book. Moriarty's books definitely follow a common theme where the books reveal bit by bit, all in strangely mundane settings that end up being compelling. Forgetting ten years of your life isn't exactly mundane, but as you learn more and more about Alice's life and her relationship, you can see how little things can add up and change the trajectory of your life. It's certainly relatable.
