What Alice Forgot

Liane Moriarty

3.95 AVERAGE

So I have read a couple of Liane Moriarty’s books now and I have to say I am a bit disappointed by this one. I gave it 3 stars because of the Epilogue…she gave it a good ending but I felt like she seriously stretched the book out and made it unnecessarily long. I appreciate a good build up as much as anyone but it was redundant and rather boring.

Wow, this is a book was perfect timing with things going on in my life (i.e. marriage, parenting, etc). I reflected A LOT on my life now compared to ten years ago, and I realize that i need to appreciate more, be more present, and not take life too seriously.

While her books tend to be a bit formulaic they are extremely hard to put down. Quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.

I could definitely tell this is one of Moriarty’s earlier works. The writing is still top notch but it didn’t pull me in as much as I’m used to. My biggest complaint is how unrealistic the plot was. Alice wakes up with no memory of the last 10 years and her doctors say “that sucks, go home.”?????? And then there’s no follow up, no relatives insisting on her going back to the hospital, nothing?? This woman has a serious brain injury! I thought that was so bizarre.

The first 300 pages were amazing, but then it really falls off. The conclusion is extremely underwhelming and it honestly feels like nothing came of any of the major developments

I think I read this book about 4 years ago and forgot to review it. I remember enjoying it but not loving it. There is a strong element of it being totally unrealistic which tends to annoy me a little bit but the idea of forgetting a huge chunk of your life was interesting to think about.

I finally read it! I couldn't put it down and it made me think a lot, the only reason I can't give it 5 stars is there's just a little too much language.

Update: I just recently read this again which is something I almost never do and I couldn't put it down again. I think I liked it even more than the first time and I will up my rating, I have thought about this book many times in the last year and a half since I first read it and it made for a really great discussion for book club, the longest continuous discussion we've had about one book!
