This was completely gorgeous, completely moving, and completely immersive. I had this open at work to read on breaks and, well, I'm glad that I had a slow day because I read it start to finish and would have read a lot more. (Not that there needed to be more. It was the perfect length.)

Love this author’s world building, but I found it hard to care for the characters.

I really enjoy the premise of the Xuya Universe. Chinese and Viet influenced world building in space. I am always up for a story that includes sentient spaceships.

I loved the worldbuilding of this book and I definitely want to read more of the series.

I got lost culturally - in a good way. This book didn’t try to explain things to the reader but also made the plot and characters accessible and understandable.

I found the main characters difficult to like, but this is me personally struggling with characters who screw up on massive scales.

I've pretty much decided that I will be reading all of Aliette's books. I really like her writing, worlds and characters. Although I have yet to really love anything by her (this is my third book) I always enjoy the journey.
