Dnf’d about 20% into. I was partway thru the fourth story, the titular story, and just wasn’t jiving with the writing style or the stories. After trying several times over the last few months, I’m giving up.
I might try again in the future since I did have high hopes when I bought it but for now, we’re better off separated.

Fabulous pieces of writing. For those that want to learn a larger breadth of Russian life and good writing to boot, I highly recommend. There’s a reason Svetlana Alexievich decided to write the foreword to this book. “After Eternity” is an excellent tug at the heartstrings.

Funny and entertaining short stories, loved the mix of darkness with hilarity and the mundane world in each tale
