It took me a while to get around to *Butcher and Blackbird* by Brynn Weaver, but boy, was it worth the wait! Though it didn't quite hit the five-star mark for me, I read it in one day and was glued to the pages from start to finish.
First things first—check the trigger warnings before you dive in. They're all over the place, so just give them a quick glance!
This book is an absolute whirlwind, full of quirky charm, cringe-worthy gore, and a world that sucked me in from page one. It’s definitely one-of-a-kind and worth a read if you know what you’re signing up for!
The main characters have the kind of banter that makes you grin from ear to ear. When Rowan named his restaurant "you know what" and permanently reserved a table for Sloane after only meeting her once, my heart went all mushy. His adoration for her is just too cute, and I loved his goofy yet totally devoted personality. "You'll love me someday" 😍.
The mix of humor and romance had me giggling one minute and swooning the next. The slow burn and spicy scenes kept me hooked, and I'm really thankful that I was never a fan of cookies and cream ice cream.
The found family and tight-knit relationships add so much warmth to the story. Sloane’s best friend Lark and Rowan’s supportive brothers are all in on their secrets and quirks.
It's a wild and twisted ride, and I'm looking forward to the next in the series!

I went into this book with zero information so when it opens on murder and I was expecting romance, it threw me for a few pages. And that’s it. A few pages and then I devoured this in mere hours.
I will say it was a little too gross for me during the murder scenes. I’m not a fan of body horror (and I might not eat ice cream for a while). And then (I’m shocking myself saying this) but the sex scenes were also a little too much for me. Like ohhhkay! We went straight from murder all the time to really smutty sex all the time. Many pages. Many details. Too much “pleated hole” mentions tyvm. Happy for them and I do love me some smut but after the third scene, I thought ok I get it, they’re really kinky. We can do some fade to blacks now. So I knocked some points for those reasons.
Mega glad this stands alone but I will be getting my paws on the next book asap!

Too gory for me.
