A wonderful collection of short essays, mostly written by middle-aged sons about their fathers, some about their own sons, reflecting on those loving but often fraught relationships. Almost all of the authors are writers of outdoors-oriented prose or poetry, and most of the themes are wrapped in nature as well as stories of human life and death. Like most essay collections, the quality is a bit uneven, but the breathtaking stories far outweigh the good ones.
