I absolutely loved the artwork in this book as well as the writing style. The story was cute and engaging, though I think I missed some of the impact of it because I haven't read the first book in the series. It is definitely a book I intend to read my son, even before he's old enough to watch Rise of the Guardians.
“On and on Sandy slept. And on and on he dreamed. Until every grain of sand on his island contained a dream.... the world changed. The island changed. And Sandy changed.”
The sweet story of how Sandy became a guardian of Childhood. I got the wide picture books in this series for their illustrations, and they don't disappoint. It has basically the same cover as The Sandman and the War of Dreams (book four in the Guardians series) though wider, but the story is only a condensed version of Sandy's backstory for smaller children.
Beautifully illustrated and a great bedtime story as it is all about sleep, and having good dreams. :D
Another startlingly beautiful book in the Guardians of Childhood series, but that's approximately where my good feelings end. Much like [b:The Man in the Moon|10390182|The Man in the Moon (The Guardians of Childhood, #1)|William Joyce|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1361199496s/10390182.jpg|15293932], the plot was not very well constructed and there were just too many words.
I decided to read these books after I saw Rise of the Guardians, and since then my understanding of this universe has gotten more muddled, not more clear. Some of the Guardians come from space? And some are human but turned into magical people by the Man in the Moon? I feel like they didn't really put enough thought into this universe before they made it. And they certainly haven't clarified any story lines/origin stories. I expected to find more depth in the book series' (and, full disclosure, I haven't read any of the chapter books yet) but instead I just find myself vastly unsatisfied with how badly executed the universe is.

Classic
I got this one for the art and because it's focused on one of my favorite characters of the collection. It's a great book to add to a collection. The paperback is even greater

Beautiful and good for older children who like pictures books
I love William Joyce. His illustrations are magnificently mind blowing . This is a wonderful book for children who are afraid of the dark and /or are probe to nightmares.
Beautifully illustrated, I hope to see more in this series. I read this aloud to my students and they were enthralled.
This is a magical story. It is a myth about the Sandman. I love this artwork, I love this story. This book made me feel something. The man in the moon works with the Sandman keeping children's dreams safe and happy. The Sandman fights the bad dreams for us.
This is one of my new favorite books at the moment.
The kids loved this book too. We are going to have to re-read this before it goes back to the library.
