I mean it was okay. I’ve read better singular romance mangas then this. I honestly didn’t know anything about it except that others seemed to really like it. I just wasn’t feeling it. I enjoy the mixed communication in series just because things change and we address it as time goes on but for it being so short it just felt really rushed. I can see where others might like this though especially if it’s the first one they’ve read from this genre. But personally not for me.

Yagi has wanted to work in a bookshop ever since meeting a young man, who shared his love of picture books with him as a child. Unfortunately Yagi is a goat and goats like eating paper, so no one wants to hire him to work at a book store. That is until he moves to the carnivorous part of town and a stern, but kind wolf boy hires him. Yes, Yagi has a bad habit of taking bites out of books, but he also brings in customers.
This is a super cute, goofy BL comic with animal-human hybrid characters. None of the twists are unexpected, but that doesn't affect the romance from being adorable. It also telegraphs the graphic sex scenes four or five pages ahead, which I greatly appreciated.Mostly because I couldn't stop laughing at Ookami jerking Yagi off because, you know, that's what bros do when one of them is in sexual distress. I personally don't feel like the graphic sex is necessary and might actually be a detriment to what is otherwise an adorable love story that could be accessible to a larger age range. Still it's a silly premise that made my heart happy.

This is honestly one of the cutest manga that I’ve ever read! I loved that this took place in a bookshop (there simply aren’t enough books that take place in bookstores 🥰). I loved that Yagi’s dream was to be a book seller and that Ookami was the one to bring that dream to reality. And the way that all the other carnivores adored Yagi was just so cute! I also really liked that this was a little bit of a childhood-friends-to-lovers situation (even if Yagi didn’t recognize Ookami at first). This is getting a four and a half stars. It was just so fun and cute and I would love to see more! 🥰

It's cute but with the same issues that books of this genre have.

An e-arc of the book has been provided by the publisher, Tokyo Pop – Love x Love, in exchange for an honest review.
Yagi is a goat and he works in a bookshop.
It may not be much of a shocker for you but in the world he lives in, it is bizarre to see a goat working near any sort of stuff made of paper. Why, you might ask? It is because goats like to eat paper, apparently. And so, Yagi’s dream of becoming a book seller and this stereotype (that is actually true) collides with one another. Until he found a store in the carnivore zone who employed him. Little did he know, there’s a story behind it.
Yagi the Bookshop Goat is a cute read and refreshes some of the good memories I had when I started reading. Reading the manga made me reminisce of the parts of my life when I also wanted to work in local book stores or in libraries.
I adore the simplicity of the manga art and paneling. The story was easy to follow and the emotional expressions of each characters are well portrayed by the simplistic and (as for Japanese art standards) less exaggerated expressions. Additionally, the straightforwardness of the paneling made it such an easy read. There wasn’t any complicated skips and cuts that are common within overdrawn manga. It is appealing and quick to read with respect to these decisions.
It did not ruin the entirety of the book for me however, I found (at least) two reasons why I was bothered by this book: (1) the obvious age gap of the characters and the story behind their meeting. In trying to avoid spoilers I will leave it at that. I didn’t think much of it as a big deal but it can become detrimental for some people; and, (2) the mandatory sex scenes that, perhaps, most BL manga cannot seem to shake off.
Overall, I adored this book. There was so much I was able to relate to and I find the characters charming and cute. As I’ve said, you have to look out for the reason why I was pretty off by the story, but aside from that, it was an entertaining read.
“You can enjoy books in a unique way, all your own.”
