Ilove how mysterious this book is. It made it hard to put the book down. Amelia is kind and I like it that she adopted the stray dog. What I didn't like was "the evil" and how it affects people.

The Kingdom was everything I hoped it would be, and more.  A frightening, emotional, phenomenally written ghost story. Like the first book The Restorer. The details of the ghosts the town, the graveyards, are so visually written that I could see everything in exquisite detail. The roller-coaster ride of emotions, gave me goosebumps. I was afraid, excited, anxious, happy and even had warm fuzzies a few times. Secrets are reveled.
Amelia is recovering from a broken heart, and needs to get away. She takes a job on an Island restoring a graveyard with a dubious history. The town is nearly a ghost town. The ones that remain are a weird dark bunch, hiding an ugly and haunted past. Really, it’s the isle of dark misfits. The Asher’s, the creepy prominent family, sold land and drowned a graveyard without moving the bodies. Their family graveyard was higher up and not flooded. Amelia, is set to work restoring it but something is there. The night brings mist, dark shadows and ominous howls. The locals scurry indoor before dusk settles. She finds herself undeniably attracted to on of the Asher’s, both of them are drawn into a horrible realization.
Amelia, knows the rules, she does not make eye contact, does not let them know she is aware of them at all, until one ghost. One ghost that crosses the mental shields set by her father years ago. Shattered. She should not have a animal, they can see the ghost, bringing unwanted attention. Angus, sweet, tortured Angus. She brakes many rules and he was her ‘best’ broken one. Shattered. All her beliefs in who and what she is, her safety are all about to be shattered.
Ms. Stevens is the ghost story queen. I love her attention to details and dialog. She hit a home run with me, it was the perfect ghost story. She is on my favorite author list.

3.5 stars. This one was slightly less engaging than the first but still good. I'm really liking this series.

For the second book in the series, this was just okay. I still found Amelia to be far too naive for her age and experiences. She was also too trusting of people, that did nothing to earn it.

I'm glad Amelia finally got some answers regarding her past, however, the facts were easy to figure out and it got frustrating waiting for Amelia to put all the pieces together. Also, I'm not 100% sure I buy the story of her birth, it seemed a little to simple for something that was so intense.

Even though their was a prequel tie-in, for now, I still think the prequel was unecessary. Even more so now because the summary given to include it in this book, basically summed the whole thing up.

For all my disappointment, I am still interested in continuing the series. I'm hoping that it will get better and I'll have some of the same excitement that I did the first time I read the first book in this series.

I found the first book in this series entertaining enough to read the second novel. The second novel had more depth, more heart, and a few truly scary moments set in the spooky Appalachian mountains. The setting really added to the overall creepiness. There was also less emphasis on the whole "he's attracted me me, oh my stars and garters!" which turned a little weird in the first novel.

Můj asi nejoblíbenější díl.
Ta atmosféra, místo, příběh. To těžko něco překoná. Ale jak už jsem psala dřív, já jsem, pokud se jedná o tuto sérii, prostě předpojatá.

4.5 stars - I really enjoyed this book! The atmosphere was so spooky and the mystery kept me guessing
Spoilerand things are still not completely resolved. I loved learning about Amelia's parentage finally. I did guess her parents pretty early but was surprised about some of the aspects
.

I wasn't sure about her moving to a new setting but it was not a problem and I was sucked in right away.
