Excellent book - a short history of the aftermath of the war of independence in Algeria in the guise of a thriller (setting 1988, written 2004), with roots going back to that time period. Also giving you an idea of the civil war to come, the rise of fundamentalism, and more. Well written, because even though I didn't find the main character particularly likeable, i really cared what happened!
