This short collection of pieces from Brian Centrone comes just shy of bittersweet and instead moves the characters within to turning points in their lives where they seem to be regaining some point of control, or tell us the story of a life that is perhaps going to get on track.

The titular 'Biddy' was perhaps my favourite (if only because of the narrative voice of her character, which was so damn amusing), but all the stories left me with the sense of a soft smile, or that dash of hope that can come from a tale told of someone realizing that their life isn't where they want it to be, and deciding something. Even if the decision is only that it's time to make one, there's a completeness to these tales even when they feel a bit like a tease.
