I loved this one even more than the first. This is the first book that has brought me to tears since I was a teenager. The universe Becky Chambers has created and the characters that live in it, are so beautiful. I wish I could give this book more stars!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I sat I my kitchen crying as
Owl told Pepper not to cry and that she was there, and I didn't stop crying till the end of the book, though the tears were for a variety of different emotions. These characters are so easy to love. Sidra learning how to be a person, including her inate instincts and not ridding herself of the unique aspects that are core to her is such a huge and beautiful storyline, which I read as allegorical for neurodivergence. Tak is a great friend, and Owl getting to see Pepper and Blue Shepard Sidra into personhood as she'd done for Pepper was beautiful. Sidra and Owl getting to share digital space is beautiful and I long for a continuation of the story in which AI are granted legal personhood. I know the series continues and god I hope that change in political landscape is a part of it. My heart is full with Owl and her reunion with Pepper; being able to finally hug the girl she's loved and raised for years. My heart breaks for Lovey and what could have been.

I really really liked this. It was different from the first book in the series, and less lighthearted for sure, but Becky Chambers is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. The characters and worlds she builds are amazing and so well thought-out. This book had some darker/sadder elements than I'm used to with other books I've read by her, but not in a bad way. I can't wait to read the next one.

This was such a sweet, heartbreaking story (in some places, overall it’s a triumph). It really finds its legs half way through the book and doesn’t let up until the ending , excellent pacing and world building. Sweet characters that you want to root for it just so nice to read a book like this that, while it has dark moments, is not just grim dark for the sake of grim dark. The heavier elements of the story help you understand the character’s motivations and why they do what they do.
A lovely ending to a well crafted sci-fi story.
