Several POVs, expertly balanced with such rich backstories and relationship development that I ended up loving (or at least understanding) each character and their decision-making. Sometimes wanted to yell at all of them, but mostly wanted to comfort them.

Loved it! This is like The Hunger Games but darker and with magic! The characters are great! I loved the way the world was created. The competition is well thought out. The plot really develops well and leaves on a cliffhanger. I love seeing the different characters before the competition and seeing their viewpoints. It really made it hard to have a favorite! (Although I was pretty much team, Alistair, from the beginning...lol) I can't wait to read the sequel! I highly recommend it!

Bohaterowie od początku mnie irytowali, przechwalając się jacy to oni są nikczemni (a samo słowo „nikczemny” pada chyba kilkanaście razy na pierwszych 50 stronach). Tymczasem to raczej grupa wystraszonych nastolatków, która próbuje zgrywać łotrów.
Moim zdaniem styl autorek jest raczej toporny, dość ciężko brnie się przez książkę. Generalnie jestem na nie. Szkoda, bo liczyłam na zachwyt.

Za drugim razem zrobiłam podejście do audiobooka licząc, że dzięki temu łatwiej przebrnę przez ten toporny styl, ale wciąż ta historia jest dla mnie potwornie nudna i kolejny raz robię DNF.

J'ai beaucoup aimé ce livre, même s'il n'est pas original, mais le système de magie est très intéressant. Certains passages du livre font froid dans le dos, j'aurais espéré que ce soit plus que ça, mais j'ai quand même pris beaucoup de plaisir à le lire et c'est tout ce que je demande. Les différents points de vue nous permettent de miser sur notre champion, de voir l'évolution des personnages et leurs motivations (je suis team Alistair, yeah yeah).
Une chose que j'ai appréciée, c'est la façon dont le deuil est véhiculé à travers un personnage en particulier, c'est ce qui m'a le plus touchée dans ce livre.

I loved the concept of this book and thought the magic system was really interesting! However, when it came to the characters, I genuinely didn't find a single one of them compelling or interesting. Obviously they aren't very likeable characters, (which is fine-- complex characters are very much my cup of tea!), but more than anything, they just seemed underdeveloped and flat to me :( May or may not read the second book, we'll see.
