Won this in a giveaway and I quite liked it. It felt like a different dynamic than some of the usual thrillers and it was refreshing. Do check trigger warnings.

I need to say up front that I received a free copy of this book via a Storygraph giveaway. I should probably also explain my star rating system, which is approximately as follows:
1 star - awful, did not finish
2 stars - really struggled, came close to giving up, but battled through
3 stars - solid, enjoyable read but one I may well forget I have read afterwards!
4 stars - solid enjoyable read that I will recall having read
5 stars - outstanding, could not stop thinking about it after I had finished.

Based on that rating system, this is a very solid 3-star book, which only took me quite a long time to finish as I was quite ill in the middle of the period.

The beginning felt a little clunky with exposition as the cast of characters and plot were introduced, but it soon found its rhythm in a way that kept me engaged and wanting to read more to find out what happened.

Lisa Jamison is a young reporter with a difficult back story who stumbles across a crime conspiracy when the father of her daughter (who she had at 15) is found dead. This ultimately threatens her own safety and that of her family.

There were one or two elements I found a little clichéd and far-fetched, and I did guess who the main bad guys were quite early on (something I am normally HOPELESS at!), but the pacing was enough for me to overlook these elements and just enjoy the thrills. I'd definitely consider reading more on this series.

I really enjoyed this book. Once i hit chapter 10 i think i read the rest in one sitting i started the day with chapter 5 and would take breaks but then i hit 10 and i just had to keep reading. I really enjoyed seeing everything come full circle for the ending and I look forward to reading the other books in this series.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book starts really well, intriguing from the off. The author gave good introductions to the characters and it flowed really well.

The story pulls you in carefully and unknowingly and you just want to keep reading to find out what happens next.

This is definitely worth reading.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and BookSirens for gifting me this arc in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Thanks to NetGalley and Level Best Books for letting me read this book prior to its publication. My opinion is 100% honest, unbiased, and my own. Also, thanks to the author, Lori Duffy Foster, for reaching out to me via my blog.

I really liked the premise for this book and I got into the story quite quickly, which is not something that it happens to me very often. It was gripping, the pace was fast, and things kept happening which made the plot progress fast. The characters were well fleshed out, with proper backgrounds and all a reader needs to feel some sort of connection with them.

So I was really enjoying this book, and then it got a bit predictable, and when I can guess what is going to happen and then it happens... well, I feel disappointed. I like being guessing up to the very end. The ending, that's another issue. It happened too fast and everything seemed to be quite convenient.

Ups and downs in a book that, overall, has been entertaining and enjoyable. A good book for a weekend of relax.

A good fast paced, murder mystery read! When you know someone, you know someone whether it has been just a few weeks, months or years. Lisa Jamison has worked hard to make a better life for her daughter and herself. She was a teenage mother and now that her daughter is that age- fear of her daughter heading down the same path is on her mind constantly and it's causing a rift between them. Meanwhile, her ex-boyfriend has been murdered and the police are chalking it up to a drug killing but Lisa knows that is impossible. It may have been sixteen years, but she knew Marty and he would never get wrapped up in drugs. As Lisa decides to investigate on her own, she quickly finds out who she can trust, and who she needs to look into further meanwhile, she is struggling to fix things with her daughter and whether to tell her the secret she has kept all these years. I really enjoyed this novel, and look forward to more in this series. Thank you to the author for sending me a free copy of her novel!
