Offers an exciting mix of science fiction, mystery and adventure. The story follows a group of teenagers who stumble upon the lost inventions of Nikola Tesla, setting off a series of bizarre and humorous events. Shusterman's writing is engaging and successfully blends science and fiction to create a captivating narrative. The characters are well-developed and easily identifiable, allowing readers to connect with their experiences. While the story is entertaining and brimming with creativity, some may find the pacing uneven at times.

This book reminded me a bit of how the Goosebumps books feel. Fun, a little creepy, weird, but fascinating.

After his family home burns down, 14-year-old Nick moves into an old, mysterious house left to his family by his aunt. In the attic of the Victorian home, Nick finds a collection of odd objects and makes a killing selling them in a garage sale. Soon afterward, Nick discovers that the objects have unexplainable powers and were created by none other than Nikola Tesla, the brilliant scientist and inventor. With the help of his new friends Caitlyn, Mitch and Vince, he tries to recover the objects before they are discovered by the Accelerati, a secret scientist society with nefarious plans for the items.

Packed with adventure and humor, Tesla’s Attic is a solid middle-grade read. Shusterman’s knack for engaging storytelling is present here, and readers will clamor for further installments. Some readers may find Tesla’s items far-fetched, as they seem to be powered by magic rather than science (one item creates an audio recording of innermost thoughts; another reanimates the dead), but all liberties are taken in good fun. Tesla’s Attic is a silly, light-hearted book that may raise interest in the life and work of the actual Nikola Tesla and his feud with Thomas Edison, the founder of Shusterman’s fictional Accelerati.

I received this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Disney Book Group and to NetGalley for the advance copy!
