Exquisitely beautiful. A masterpiece I feel honored to have had the opportunity to read. It touches the soul. It's the most beautiful book I've ever read.

A lovely co-adaptation, though now I feel like I need to rewatch the film. The novel is a little too neat in connecting side characters' crossed paths, but it takes us along Strickland's journey to the heart of his darkness in the Amazon seeking Deus Branquia.

Didn't love it, didn't hate it. Didn't like it, didn't dislike it. Too much gore for me personally.

Two artists took the same story and created it independent of each other - one via film and the other via novel. I wanted to read it first.

I didn't really know much about this book going in - just what the front cover said and that the film version had received many accolades. The book should too. It dives into the lives of primarily five different individuals all brought together by this discovery and capture of a creature, but the depth of story telling extends so much beyond that. Even the worst characters had some redeeming qualities, for a while, and I found myself trying to sneak in more time to read until I just blocked out enough to finish. It is a lovely story with heart-felt compelling writing. I'm a little hesitant to watch the movie because this version is crafted so beautifully, but curiosity will probably get the best of me.
