2.5 stars. Would have been 3.5 if I'd read it when published in 1992... it's understandably lost a little relevance since then.

A little bit more biting than some of his older columns, but still a fun read.

A friend gave us tickets to hear Dave Barry speak at a Celebrity Forum in May. In anticipation of the event, I got this audiobook from the library so we could listen during our drive to Lake Tahoe. The introductions are read by Dave Barry and the stories themselves are read by Arte Johnson (remember "Laugh-In"?). The stories vary, but some are laugh-out-loud funny. Even my reticent husband was really laughing at some of the stories, especially those we could relate to like the airplane passengers from Hell, and the teenage angst of first dates. Dave Barry knows how to tell a story!

Always fun to read a Dave Barry collection. Listening to it was interesting since Barry only did intros to the sections and not the whole book reading.

I love Dave Berry - SO funny. A good read in pieces, but got a little repetitive reading it straight through.

This was a rather average read. There were some absolutely laugh-out-loud parts, but by and large, he was only mildly amusing, and, during his longer essays, completely boring. I skipped tracks for his longer articles because he completely loses his humour in them. But, then there were parts where my guffaws filled every space in my car. Overall, a mediocre read.

I love some of these articles so much. "The Unkindest Cut of All" and anything related to the "Bad Song Survey" keep me laughing all these years later.

His longer articles reflect an effort to achieve more depth in his writing - with mixed success.

Part of my shelf review (I bought it once, do I keep it now?). This book is a yes.

Entertaining, but not as funny as I'd hoped, and nowhere near as funny as "Dave Barry Does Japan" (granted, I read the latter 12 years ago). The humor in these columns feels dated.

I love Dave Barry's sense of humor and I love the whimsical way in which he tells his completely-absurd stories. He's got a lively and energetic narrator's voice and uses hilarious imagery to plant exactly the picture in your brain he's going for.
