This is a fun, quick read. A police procedural/crime novella set in an alternate world very like our own except there are creatures (such as gremlins) walking the streets and living their lives alongside humans. I liked that there wasn't an attempt to provide an elaborate backstory for the world building here. Creatures just are and deserve justice like any other being. Sara Panotti is the young detective charged with solving her first big case, and you root for her to bring the murderer to book for the crime. I felt like this story was just a taste of things to come and hope to learn even more about Sara and the creatures that inhabit this world in upcoming installments, but overall a fast-paced story and promising start to a new mystery series.
