Complicated creatures is a romantic suspense that is fast paced and awash with interesting characters.

The prologue drew me in immediately and sets the scene for Sam. At first glance, she is a contract lawyer, but clearly much more by the end of the prologue. Sam courts danger for a living, always in control and definitely not ready for a settled, quiet life. Jack is a somewhat troubled property tycoon who is looking to lease the other side of the floor of his penthouse. Sam is secured for this by his right-hand man and she gets completely under Jack's skin right from the first moment. There is heartbreak and hurt in Sam's past and in some ways, her and Jack are potentially an explosive combination. There are a number of good side characters in this book that I want more of, such as Jamie, Jack's brother.

If you're looking for a story with intrigue, romance and suspense, then this book is for you.

I was gifted a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

I'm pleasantly surprised that this was so good! After a 2 month long reading slump, I was starting to give up on picking up books from authors I'm not familiar with, however, Complicated Creatures exceeded all my expectations and really blew me away. Maybe romantic suspense is what I need to binge on for awhile.

The writing in Complicated Creatures is absolutely beautiful. It was such a treat to read. The leading lady, Samantha Wyatt, is a heroine you don't usually come across. She has the attributes of a typical hero of any genre - A-type, ass-kicking, confident, powerful, authoritative, etc. And by ass-kicking, I mean it quite literally. She's like a female James Bond - are you starting to see why this is so awesome? It's refreshing having an alpha female who can beat someone to death with their own arm (that's usually the hero's job when he goes on a jealous bout). Now, Samantha isn't completely hard-ass, she has an emotional vulnerable side that she tries to shield. But there's a man desperately trying to get under it - Jack Roman.

Don't think that just because Samantha is an A-type typical hero gal that Jack is the quieter typical heroine counterpart. No, he's definitely still an alpha male, he's just not in the military/guns-blazing/kick-your-ass department. He's in the play with my millions and make some more department. So what happens when two strong-willed, powerful characters collide? Great things, folks. Great things.
