I think this is personally the best book out of the series. The relationships grew and the tribes are literally my favorite people. The introduction of the new characters who were kind of insane. The characters were growing. The stakes were high. But at times it felt a bit silly.

I am not quite sure how I feel about this book.

Helene's POV was necessary to create some differences between Elias and Laia, but I hated her character. She starts to come to the realization that maybe the empire hasn't been doing the right thing, but since she has NO spine, she just continues on.

The amount of violence and the mass murdering of the Scholars was overwhelming to the point where I didn't know how to feel. There was no hope for the Scholars with the Commander with her army slaughtering everyone.

I'm curious to know where it goes, but I didn't realize there are 2 books to go

Another victim of second book syndrome 🥲 I was SO excited to immediately dig into this after book 1 and unfortunately this fell so, so flat. What even did I read? It took me over 2 weeks to finish which is so far outside the norm I’m surprised I didn’t DNF it entirely. I was so bored. The story became nonsense. The people and plot I was rooting for got trampled into dust. Worst of all it’s forgettable, so if I end up picking up the next book I won’t even remember what happened. I feel personally victimized by this book and I’m really sad about it.
