I think this book is held in too high regard. It's an alright story, kind of interesting, kind of fun. Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail is REALLY Thompson's masterpiece.

Hunter S. Thompson is a legend, I don't deny it. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is his masterpiece and I can see why people love it. It just isn't for me. Its a scrambled mess (thats fully what its intended to be) but I never felt compelled to keep on reading. I could have read this book a page a day and not felt compelled to read another paragraph. Fear and Loathing gets 3 stars because I respect Hunter S. Thompson.
